MARAUDERS CLAIM BBB #14 CHAMPIONSHIP!
The San Diego Marauders defeated the Alpine Golfers in a game that owner Lef Grebo said "wasn't pretty". 13-9 was the final in Monday nights championship game. The win was icing on the cake for the Marauders, who finish the season at 19-1 overall. San Diego now heads to USA A #7 for Season 4.
SAN DIEGO WINS WESTERN CONFERENCE!
The goal was quite simple. Owner Lef Grebo wanted to host a playoff game. On Saturday night the Marauders did more than that; they played for the Western Conference championship. A 15-1 regular season earned the Marauders the right to home field advantage and it was Albuquerque that travelled to San Diego to do battle with the Marauders. Not only was the game for the Western Conference title, but San Diego wanted to avenge their only loss of the season.
The Marauders avenged that loss 19-3, and earned the right to play Alpine in the USA BBB#14 Championship. Regardless of the outcome of Monday night's game the Marauders will be moving up to USA A, and they are ready.
San Diego saw another good performance from QB Jake Obergfell. One would think that Jake is driver's seat for Offensive Player of the Year in the Western Conference. Saturday night he was 24/41 for 214 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Marauders running back trio of Bo Knowes, Bobby Miley, and Bubba Tuggins combined to rush for just over 100 yards. A pair of San Diego recievers caught 5 passes. They were Tommy Browne, who had 50 yards, and MikeyMac McCabe.
Kicker Jared Fritz was perfect on 4 attempts, and was key to helping San Diego win the game. Punter Joe Cumberland continued to punt well since being acquired as a free agent.
San Diego saw 4 players tie for the team lead in tackles with 4. They were Lester Hayes, Jermy Lehman, Mark Millen, and Max Jones. Hayes and Tyler Hulegaard had interceptions.
The team celebrated on the field for about an hour after the game. Noone went home as they decided to stay and watch film on Alpine. To say the Marauders are excited about Monday night's game would be an understatement. It's been a season where almost nothing has gone wrong, and San Diego hopes that continues versus the Alpine Golfers.
